Melanies Cakes was first established in 1998 after Melanie Leonard quit her day job to indulge full-time in her passion of making cakes. Melanie has baked and decorated birthday cakes for most of her life and has over 30 years experience in designing, baking and decorating wedding cakes.
Over the past 20 years Melanie’s business has expanded significantly and now offers an endless choice of delicious cakes for all occasions. Melanie’s also create their own wide selection of Luxury Handmade Belgian Chocolates.
As news of Melanie’s mouth-watering cakes has spread, the talented baker has been asked to compete in national and regional competitions, including the Great British Village Show on BBC1, hosted by Alan Titchmarsh and James Martin, in which she won the regional heats in 2006, which took her to the final at Highgrove to meet Prince Charles and Camilla, Duches of Cornwall.
Melanie was even asked to make a cake for a wedding on ITV drama Fat Friends in 2005, Melanie also made a snooker table cake for the 30th Anniversary of the Snooker Tournament at the Crucible Sheffield.
Fifteen years ago Melanie’s partner Jim Wroe followed suit by leaving his job as a coal miner at Selby pit to become a real life Willy Wonka, handling the chocolate making side of the business.
After almost 20 years at their retail shop, bakery and chocolate kitchen in Cudworth they have now relocated. They hope that their new purpose built kitchens will give a better work live balance so they can concentrate on creating a more elaborate “cake creation” without the distraction of a shop.
Customers can still find them at local farmers markets with their chocolates (in the cooler months) they will be updating their facebook pages as to where and when. Or just drop them a message if you want to know where they will be. Customers needing cakes can still ring, email or message and they can sort out your requirements from there.
